Robert, Thanks for the quick reply... I am sorry I have not responded more rapidly. On my system, once I install grub2 and run grub-mkdevicemap, a blank device map file is generated. The problem persists when I use an alternative map file (test.txt in ~) as well. I verified the version with grub-mkdevicemap --version and it reported "1.96". Therefore I am inclined to think the problem is also still present in grub2.
What else should I try next?
