Package: alsa-utils Version: 1.0.16-1 Severity: normal alsa-utils recommends udev, but on the minority of systems that don't use udev, it can certianly work fine w/o it, and having udev be pulled onto such a system by a recommends can cause other breakage.
The recommends seems to serve no purpose on the majority of systems, since they already have udev installed. So I think this recommendation should be dropped. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.24-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages alsa-utils depends on: ii dialog 1.1-20080316-1 Displays user-friendly dialog boxe ii libasound2 1.0.16-2 ALSA library ii libc6 2.7-10 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libncurses5 5.6+20080405-1 Shared libraries for terminal hand ii linux-sound-base 1.0.16-1.1 base package for ALSA and OSS soun ii lsb-base 3.2-8 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii module-init-tools 3.4-1 tools for managing Linux kernel mo ii pciutils 1:2.2.10-1 Linux PCI Utilities ii python 2.5.2-0.1 An interactive high-level object-o ii whiptail 0.52.2-11.2 Displays user-friendly dialog boxe Versions of packages alsa-utils recommends: ii alsa-base 1.0.16-1.1 ALSA driver configuration files ii udev 0.114-2 /dev/ and hotplug management daemo -- no debconf information -- see shy jo
