Hi, I'm not sure whether this bug (wishlist item) should really be considered closed? It is true that recent versions do send a User-agent: header -- but that only contains a dummy string along the lines of "fuck you"...
The reason I did this was that I got seriously pissed off when I realized that not only some obscure commerial sites insist on this header, as I already knew, but also the shining community star Wikipedia... I still can't remain calm when reminded of that. What the fuck are they thinking?! It's a violation of the HTTP standard -- the User-agent: header is clearly optional. And trying to recognize "evil crawlers" by the user agent string is just an incredibly absurd idea. Anyways, some day I'll probably give in and implement a proper User-agent: header. But that day hasn't come yet. (Especially as doing it properly, with version number, is some serious work for little use -- so far, the program has no mechanism to know it's own version number...) On the other hand, the "fuck you" header seems sufficient to pacify those stupid sites; so maybe it's indeed all the user filing this bug wished for... -antrik- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
