Package: dpkg-dev Version: 1.14.18 Severity: normal dpkg-buildpackage exporting CFLAGS can cause packages to FTBFS. See for example #475979. In this case the package consists of a top-level makefile, that runs a makefile in a subdirectory. The toplevel makefile sets CFLAGS to some value, but does not expect the makefile in the subdirectory to see it. If CFLAGS is exported though, the makefile in the subdirectory will see the value exported from toplevel, and in this case, fail to build.
This doesn't stike me as a goods change to have made if you want to get the current version of dpkg into testing for the release. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.24-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages dpkg-dev depends on: ii binutils 2.18.1~cvs20080103-3 The GNU assembler, linker and bina ii bzip2 1.0.5-0.1 high-quality block-sorting file co ii cpio 2.9-13 GNU cpio -- a program to manage ar ii dpkg 1.14.18 package maintenance system for Deb ii libtimedate-perl 1.1600-9 Time and date functions for Perl ii lzma 4.43-12 Compression method of 7z format in ii make 3.81-4 The GNU version of the "make" util ii patch 2.5.9-4 Apply a diff file to an original ii perl [perl5] 5.8.8-12 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii perl-modules 5.8.8-12 Core Perl modules Versions of packages dpkg-dev recommends: ii build-essential 11.3 informational list of build-essent ii gcc [c-compiler] 4:4.2.3-7 The GNU C compiler ii gcc-4.2 [c-compiler] 4.2.3-3 The GNU C compiler ii gcc-4.3 [c-compiler] 4.3.0-3 The GNU C compiler -- no debconf information -- see shy jo
