OK, that apparently comes from missing "Type:" lines in debconf templates. That's weird as the package I used for testing all this did not show the behaviour. My apologies to everybody who experienced that problem and thanks to all people who reported it. I plan to fix this bug ASAP, probably today (but I'm travelling and thus need a few hours).
