Package: hotkeys
Version: 0.5.7.4-0.1
Severity: normal

It would be nice if the use of /dev/mixer was not hardcoded into
hotkeys. Ideally, many mixers could be supplied (in the conf file or
on the commandline), and hotkeys wouldn't care if all of them existed
at any one time -- it would just try to set each one in turn when
asked to change the volume/mute, and if a device failed because an
external soundcard wasn't plugged in, hotkeys simply wouldn't care --
it would try again next time the user tried to change the volume.

Since all the soundcards would start off in the general case with
different volume settings, when starting up, simply query the master
volume settings of the first card supplied, and use it as "master" for
all the other soundcards.

This would go well on my laptop, when I occasionally plug in a dolby
5.1 external set of headphones, and want the volume control to adjust
them too.
