Hi,

today, I had trouble with the samba/cups combination even with the "sleep 2" workaround (although I do not really understand why). Upon closer inspection of the cupsys init-script I was wondering if you need the pid-file at all. It seems that you are not using the pid (e.g. when stopping cupsd), so wouldn't it be simplest just not to create the pid-file and start cupsd without the --background option? In that case it should not be necessary to add an artificial delay (otherwise it would be a problem of cupsd itself). In my case, this approach seems to be working. BTW, while looking at the init-script, I was wondering whether maybe it would be safer to add the '--user root' option to the stop part, to make sure not to accidentally kill cupsd instances that do not belong to root.

Best wishes,

Martin.
