wait. this has nothing to do with slow buildd's. I didn't notice the original
reporter was reporting amd64 but that's a red herring. It's exactly the same
situation in i386:

oxford:/home/stark# apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-bin
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  sun-java6-bin: Depends: sun-java6-jre (= 6-04-2) but 6-05-1 is to be installed
  sun-java6-jre: Depends: sun-java6-bin (= 6-05-1) but 6-04-2 is to be
installed or
                          ia32-sun-java6-bin (= 6-05-1) but it is not
installable
