I think that this is a problem with the driver for your video card. At least that's a guess from reading a description of a bug leading to a similar crash and error message: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/205599 Evince doesn't handle large pdf files or zooming very well, instead of just showing part of the document, it scales up everything, leading to a very large pixmap.
