It's because he has the same line twice in his sources.list (the last 2 ones). I hadn't noticed it before, I discovered it since I ran into exactly the same problem by accident (the amount of sheer luck I seem to have sometimes really astonishes me). I've written a little sample script to demonstrate the problem: <URL:http://greek0.net/~greek0/div/apt-gzip-problem.sh>. It has to be run as root, so you'd probably better just look at it and study what it does. I'm reducing severity to normal, since it's really really easy to work around (just apt-get update a second time) and only happens under very special conditions. Cheers, Greek0
