I seriously disagree that this is not release critical. It's broken the use 
of less by making its output completely unpredictable.

I will not change the severity of this BR back to RC now, but if this bug is 
not fixed very soon, I plan to take this to the TC. We should _not_ release 
Lenny with this issue in it.

Also note that the bug cannot be fixed for people who have already installed 
Lenny or will be installing it until the bug is fixed as we cannot correct 
their ~/.bashrc files. This really should be reverted ASAP.
