Package: plib1.8.4c2
Version: 1.8.4-8
Severity: normal
Since Debian policy version 3.5.7.0 (from 2002), it has been permitted to
make static-only library packages without shared libraries. The current
exceptions are listed in Policy section 8.3, where plib might fall under
exception 2 and definitely falls under exception 3 ("libraries which are
explicitly intended to be available only in static form by their upstream
author(s)").
Since plib was meant to be used as a static library, and it's allowed
in Debian now, perhaps it's time to drop that shared-library hack.
(It might make maintenance of the FlightGear packages easier, too;
I could drop my own shared-library hacks.)
You could do that when you package 1.8.5 (which is out now).
