I ran into this bug as well and 1:1.4.18~dfsg-1 does not seem to fix the
problem, contrary to what this changelog entry says:
* Backport upstream's patch for chan_vpb to avoid crashes when no
VoiceTronix cards are present. (Closes: #466729)
The only way to start asterisk was to apply the workaround that Faidon
Liambotis <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> mentioned:
"Meanwhile, you can add an explicit noload => chan_vpb.so to your
modules.conf, as a temporary workaround."
