on second thought: You don’t install x11-utils in your log, and the
error message doesn’t quite look like it – rather like a problem with
the X forwarding by ssh. Is it possible that the packages you installed
were necessary to make X11 forwarding possible in general, and the
problem is not xmonad-specific?

Please check and close the bug if that’s the case.
