That sounds acceptable and indeed desirable, unless there is some kind
of modification timestamp that gpg can print out to be compared to the
one caff knows about.
Options for these might be nice too:
* import the key from any other keyring (defaulting to ~/.gnupg)
* download the key from a keyserver
