Even in the package which is in etch & in lenny mc.ext contains this line:
View=%view{ascii} links -dump %f 2>/dev/null || w3m -dump %f
2>/dev/null || lynx -dump -force_html %f
So mc doesn't depend on w3m ... it tries at first links, then w3m and then
lynx...
This is also reflected in the dependencies of mc: It recommends one of
them.
I consider this bug as invalid, if this is fine with you... I don't know
what happen on your system.. but the .deb package which is in the pool for
etch (mc version 4.6.1-6)... contains alternatives for w3m.
