Hello, I've problems to reproduce this behaviour with the mc which is currently in unstable. Can you please verify if this bug is indeed closed with this version and put me a small note? I've tried to copy /etc/shadow and he correctly states that he can't read the file and aborted the transfer. So this behaviour is completly correct.
