I use LDAP for NSS queries via /etc/nsswitch.conf. I recently
performed an "apt-get dist-upgrade" and since then, bash dies every
time I tab complete a tilde path such as "ls ~ro<tab>". Before dying,
it emits the following diagnostics...
malloc: unknown:0: assertion botched
free: start and end chunk sizes differ
last command: set
Tab completing tilde paths containing at least one "/" succeeds, such
as "ls ~root/<tab>" and "ls ~root/bi<tab>".
Tab completing the same paths using tcsh succeeds. bash works as
expected if I disable LDAP queries in nsswitch.conf. Various strace
invocations confirm the crash occurs only when an LDAP query is
involved.
My OpenLDAP server appears to be working normally otherwise.
I last upgraded bash over a year ago. The recent dist-upgrade
replaced several packages relevant to this issue...

Please advise if you believe this is not a bash bug and I'll file it
against another package.
