I dont know what you mean by "persistant". The Chats are permanently in
my "buddy list" and with some older versions as soon as i start pidgin the
chat opens and shows the channels history. With the current version
the channel seems to open as soon as someone else joins the channel and
the contact list for that channel only shows the person which joined.
Even a double click on the chats buddy list entry does typically NOT
open the channel - Sometimes it does and correctly shows the history and
all users although i dont see a rule under which this works.
