No, when I run grub-emu, I can access files on the xfs partitions, e.g. (hd0,5)/share/grub/unicode.pff. The only strange behaviour was "error: invalid arch dependent ELF magic" when insmod-ing (hd0,2)/boot/grub/vbe.mod.
