Thanks for your answer. I'm only a novice in TeX and LaTeX, so please
forgive if I'm not understanding even basic things.

I was able to get large Computer Modern font glyphs with the help of
type1ec.sty, thanks for pointing this out. However, I confirm that
including type1ec doesn't help in case of beamerposter example.

Actually, it just loads times.sty package, which changes the default fonts to
Times, Helvetica, Courier.

According to

$ aptitude show texlive-lang-cyrillic

this Debian package includes timescyr LaTeX package, which should do
the trick of providing proper font metrics for cyrillic variants of
Times, Helvetica, Courier. But in reality it does not provide needed
metrics for extra large sizes. IMHO it's a bug in timescyr (and thus
in texlive-lang-cyrillic), because these extra large sizes, despite
being somewhat exotic, are available for latin fonts.
