That's what I was assuming. The trouble is that in Debian there is no "hotplug-base". udev depends on the "hotplug" package and that contains all the scripts I'm complaining about. Now if udev can work without those scripts as the Gentoo howto implies then it'd be nice to be able to have such a setup on Debian.
