(Locale was C.) Maybe you are just looking at the seven bits, thinking
^C interrupt?:
$ apt-cache show sympa|perl -nwe 'print if /means/..eof'
 SYMPA means 'SYst <---TRUNCATED

$ grep-aptavail -P sympa|perl -nwe 'print if /means/..eof'|cat -v
 SYMPA means 'SYstM-CM-(me de Multi-Postage Automatique' (French) or
 'Automatic Mailing System' (English).

 It is written in Perl and uses some modules (mailtools, md5, msgcat, db).
