First run gparted then exit and run lilo to get the following error
Fatal: raid_setup: stat("/dev/sda3")
/dev/sda3 is the boot device defined in lilo.conf
the filesystem includes xfs and ntfs partitions (no raid)
rebooting seeems to fix the problem and allows lilo to be run again
there is no problem running qtparted then lilo
