The test case still works with v5.8.8. Paweł Tęcza reported that he saw this bug in the wild with ikiwiki 2.15 and the perl in Ubuntu gutsy.
I think I'm going to have to start disabling taint mode in production versions of my code due to this bug. I suspect that this bug and #376329 are related, in both cases perl randomly sets flags of a scalar when a regexp operates on the scalar. -- see shy jo
