In order to reproduce this bug you need to download this from any mirror of CTAN: CTAN: /macros/latex/contrib/jsclasses OR: CTAN: /macros/latex/contrib/jsclasses.zip Then try to view those PDFs with xpdf. It outputs gazillion errors like these: Error: Unknown character collection 'Adobe-Japan1' Error: Couldn't find 'H' CMap file for 'Adobe-Japan1' collection Error: Unknown CMap 'H' for character collection 'Adobe-Japan1' Error: Unknown character collection 'Adobe-Japan1' Error: Couldn't find 'H' CMap file for 'Adobe-Japan1' collection Error: Unknown CMap 'H' for character collection 'Adobe-Japan1' Error: Unknown font tag 'R15' Error: Unknown font tag 'R15' Error: Unknown font tag 'R21' Error: Unknown font tag 'R15' Error: Unknown font tag 'R15' Error: Unknown font tag 'R15' Error: Unknown font tag 'R15' And all CJK-glyphs in those PDFs are nothing but Mojibake.
