As it was relayed to me, the "problem" here is that libfreetype is being
"strict".  Loading the file in question with evince gives the following
(repeated) error on console:

$ evince /tmp/kpdf_invisible_text.pdf
Error: could not create type1 face
some font thing failed

I guess this is the strictness in question?  If so, I fail to see how this
is a freetype bug.  If the embedded font is not properly formed, AFAICS it
is a potential security hole for freetype to load that font, and freetype's
behavior is not a bug.
