exactly, i thought it didn't matter, as many packages get upgraded even if not running at the moment of the upgrade. I have xl2tpd installed as i need it for the university vpn, but since i rarely use it i have some scripts that set up the system before attempting the connection. if any other information is needed, followup this mail. thanks again
