If you take a look at your entry types I think you will find that it "remembers" the active tab for each entry type. Technically, the reason is that one entry editor is used for each entry type. So switching between different entries of the same type, the contents are simply updated and the same tab is shown. Switching between entries of different type, another component is made visible, and a different type may be shown.
