I think that this may actually be a bug in our info package. I don't have a bug reference on-hand but I think it's something like how dpkg's install-info script does not understand the texinfo directives that tell it how to correctly generate the directory of .info files; therefore until dpkg's install-info script is replaced by texinfo's (currently packaged as ginstall-info), *all* our man pages that tell the user to run things like 'info ls' are incorrect.
