nah, i reported the bug wrong.  i had already rolled back to 0.6.11-1
at the time of filing the bug, and didn't correct the pseudo-header.
it was the transition to 0.6.14- that caused the problem for me, if
you reread the first post.

yes, it was with 0.6.14.

However, after a recent large batch of lenny updates, i'm running
stock linux-image-2.6.22-2-686 (v2.6.22-4), and the problem isn't
happening any more.

i suspect that this fixed things for me, but i haven't had the time to
switch back to the older kernel to see if it's still broken under that
one.  i'm under the gun on other projects, i'm afraid, so it might be
a few days before i can do that test.
