Because this package depends on python (<< 2.5), and the new version
will depend on python (>= 2.5). This implies that python-defaults and
hk-classes have to both migrate to testing together. This is already
hard enough when all such packages can be binNMUed, but having many
packages that all require manual intervention will simply delay the
migration endlessly.

I don't see why this wouldn't be feasible.

Still, that's not my primary concern. Please make at least your package
binNMUable. Currently, I see it as one of the blockers for python 2.5 in
Debian.
