Hello again.

I had a desktop at home with the same problem (so I had reverted back to the
mozilla.org ff), so I had a chance of doing some forensics instead of hosing the
crime scene.

I narrowed it down to /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/components/browser.xpt

If you just remove this file before (re)installing the mozilla-firefox .deb, the
crash when hitting [enter] or arrow keys on the google bar or address bar will
not appear. Interestingly, removing it AFTER you already installed the .deb and
have the problem won't make the problem go away - would any install script be
using it?

So the workaround if someone has this problem seems to be:
apt-get remove --purge mozilla-firefox mozilla-firefox-dom-inspector
rm /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/components/browser.xpt (at least)
apt-get install mozilla-firefox mozilla-firefox-dom-inspector
(I don't have the gnome support; maybe it has to be reinstalled too).

I am not sure if this browser.xpt came from an older version .deb or from a
standard mozilla.org installation, but it is left there when you uninstall the
deb package.

I have saved this leftover browser.xpt, so if you need it for analysis, let me
know.

BR!
