Sorry for the confusing reply from Luke, an upstream Gaim developer. Ignoring his assumptions... I'm assuming you have spell checking is enabled in preferences. If so, can you get us the output of the debug window (Help->Debug Window) when you first open a conversation window, and also try running Gaim with LANG set to just da rather than da_DK and see if that fixes it? aspell-da should be all that's necessary.
