You could try using the KDE environment extender mechanism instead. For this you create a file with .sh extension and put it into .kde/env/ It will be read (sourced) by the KDE startup script startkde. It might also work with a different autostart phase, see /usr/share/autostart for .desktop files with different X-KDE-autostart-phase entries.
