The man page of debchange says:
--release, -r
Update the changelog timestamp. If the distribution is set to
"UNRELEASED", change it to unstable (or another distribution as specified
by --distribution).
What it actually does, however, is to set the distribution to unstable
(or what is specified by --distribution) no matter what was there before.
I would prefer if the implemented behavior corresponded to what the
documentation currently says, meaning to preserve the distribution
setting unless it says "UNRELEASED".
