No, it doesn't. Your APT frontend is too clever for you and installed stuff from Recommends:. Just uninstall gnome-session. However, I will move gnome-core into Suggests field. The Recommend: made sense some years ago but nowadays it directly depends on gnome-session and OTOH aptitude installs recommends by default.
