Indeed I get the raideng from the rpm package to work (using alien to
convert it to .deb) but raidutil doesn't work either. It tries opening
/dev/dpti17 which I created on my system but I believe is hooked to the
dpt_i2o adaptec driver which isn't present on my system. I tough it would
primarily look for i2octl device to communicate with the controller.

the output of raidutil is :
db:~# /usr/bin/raidutil -L raid
Engine connect failed: COMPATIBILITY number

the output of raideng while runing this command is

db:/tmp# /usr/bin/raideng /VERBOSE /NOKILL
