Ahaha. The bug appears to be with gtk2-engines-smooth. With any smooth engine based theme, e.g. Lush/Nuvola etc... The above assertion fails and subsequently anjuta segfaults. The assertion does not fail with other theme engines. Hence i'm reassigning this bug.
