As stated in the bug report you linked, this problem appeared after
2.6.STABLE5 and was fixed in 2.6.STABLE8.
I cannot reproduce this problem with the package in Etch, can you
please provide more informations?

This is the bug reported in the squid bugzilla, they fix it with
the 2.6stable8 version. Etch has the 2.6stable5 and the problem
persists.
