Package: igal
Version: 1.4-12
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I'm a fan of igal. It does a great job. But it seems that the upstream author
does not support it anymore (the last release is 2 years old now).
The Debian wishlist for igal contains very interesting things that have been
proposed for a long time without going in.

This is the reason why I started a forked version of igal. It's currently
called llgal (but it will probably change). Almost all igal's perl code
has been rewritten. I'm not sure mine is cleaner but I hope so.

Here's a quick list of llgal improvements over igal:
* Generates captions from exif comments and/or timestamp.
* Support video files: slides and thumbnails are currently a text link to
the video file. But I am working on extracting thumbnails from the video.
* Support for slides that only contain some text (or links):
I like adding text slides between different parts of a gallery.
* Highly configurable interface: I often use the same list of command line
options but I never remember them. llgal can generate a configuration file
with options whose names are really explicit.
This file may be placed as /etc/llgalrc, $HOME/.llgalrc or a local
  .llgalrc file for future reuse.
* Don't create a total mess in the gallery directory: by default, all generated
(except HTML) files are placed under the .llgal.files/ subdirectory.
* Intelligent cleaning: instead of just removing everything with --clean,
llgal only remove files that you didn't modify. --cleanall is added to really
remove everything. This avoid loosing by mistake the caption file you just
  wrote.
* Support for external thumbnail is planned: if you want a specific thumbnail
for your link or video slide, you will be able to give it to llgal.
* Support for subgalleries in subdirectories is under development.
* Allow to define the title, and some headers and footers in the caption file.
* Allow to specify the unit when showing file size.
* The gallery should be much more CSS and XHTML1.1 valid.

llgal is available as a tarball or debian package in
http://bgoglin.free.fr/llgal/

I'd like llgal to enter Debian, either replacing igal or as a new package.
I can either maintain llgal upstream or both upstream and the Debian package
if you're insterested.

Regards,
Brice Goglin
