Thanks for your report and suggestions. I'll go through them at some point and decide how it impacts the other patches. You are correct that upstream is inactive. I talked to the upstream author, and he reports that he had been working on a 2.0 version but doesn't know when or even whether he'll ever finish it. It's unlikely that I'm going to spend time patching psutils, but stranger things have happened.
