just now, booted it up in a VirtualBox. It gets to
Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel.
At that point it hangs.
If I replace the virtual CD image with the etch release
(debian-40r0-i386-netinst.iso), it boots up just fine.
could you please try booting with
install DEBIAN_FRONTEND=newt ?
