pidgin-libnotify should conflict with pidgin 3.0+. Because gaim/pidgin has a policy where minor versions maintain binary compatibility, but ABI changes trigger a major version change, pidgin 3.0 would break any existing plugins. The pidgin-guifications package, to give a correct example, depends on pidgin (>= 2.0), pidgin (<< 3.0). This will avoid users upgrading pidgin packages and silently breaking the plugin.
