You can force the installation of the unstable deb or you can add unstable to your sources.list and pin it appropriately. There's never the promess that downgrades will go smoothly, but I can think of no particular reason why it would fail in the case of gdm. You can however keep -4 installed and wait until it reaches testing or until a newer version reaches testing. -- Loïc Minier
