Hi, I've found this bug, it seems to be a bit outdated, but I've found here an idea to move kbd_mode and unicode_start from /usr/bin to /bin. It will solve my troubles with unicode too. I am preparing new desktop system with etch installed and I have troubles with czech keyboard in unicode mode too. I know that boot time keyboard map is written fine, but according to your results - keyboard has not been switched to unicode because /usr is not mounted yet. I've found two solutions for me. 1) Install console common and generate right keyboard map to /etc/console/, then Install console-setup(-mini), choose one from offered (from my point of view unusable) keyboard Hack init script of console-setup to prefer keyboard map from /etc/console This solution is really dirty and I do not want to solve it by this way
2) Install console-common + console_tools without console-setup package, move kbd_mode and unicode_start to /bin I think that move files to /bin is really simple way how to solve problems with not-yet-mounted filesystems during system boot. Regards, Pavel
