On an up-to-date sid chroot, I have the same results except that xpdf gives this warning: % xpdf essai.pdf xpdf: Symbol `_XmStrings' has different size in shared object, consider re-linking XtUngrabButton(drawArea,3,0) which is reported as bugs #425568 and #425643 (actually, I suppose the "XtUngrabButton(drawArea,3,0)" part is tied to the usual "Warning: Attempt to remove nonexistent passive grab" reported as #364773).
