Well, posting the *entire* smb.conf file might help.

Anyway, with *my* setup, everything works as expected.

smb.conf:

[global]
   load printers = no
   workgroup =  DRIS
   security =  user
   map to guest = Bad User                   
   printing = cups


[homes]
directory mask=0700
browseable=no
comment=Home Directories

create mask=0770

[share]
directory mask=0700
