Package: mozilla-firefox
Version: 1.0.2-1
Severity: normal

Someone made a word document for me, and published it on the web.
I clicked it in firefox, and selected to save it. I was very surprised
when I wasn't asked _where_ to save it.

find -name "document.doc" did not find it either.

Saving in an unknown location is too stupid to be true, so I
looked at firefox "settings" to see if it had some sort
of download directory configured. It had, and it was called "Desktop".
An oddball directory I never made and never used. (It existed though,
because some stupid software made it for me.)

But the file wasn't there - this had failed.
I changed the preference to "always ask" and then it worked, i
specified a sane directory for that particular file and it got there.

I can understand that some people find a fixed download directory convenient,
but that sort of thing should never be default, because then the default is to
save to a location unknown to the user. The default must be to ask, and the
user
may then configure automatic use of a *known* directory if he so wishes.
The only useable default is the home directory itself, although it is
not a good place for storing files directly. Not that it matters much - the
silly default "Desktop" didn't work anyway.
