#425634 is not related to this bug report, because this bug here does not show up when installing Debian in QEMU (see Steffen Schulz' message). I can confirm this bug, using qemu images smaller than 4 GB in qcow format (qcow 1, not qcow2). I tried installing Debian Etch in QEMU, it worked until I had to format the "hard disk", so reading works, but writing doesn't.
